If you're interested, there's much more to the British Galleries, which sweep chro-
nologically through 400 years of British high-class living (1500-1900)—all laid out over
two floors and beautifully described.
• For now, pop out the doorway of Room 58. You'll notice we've come full circle: You're
overlooking the Grand Entrance lobby. This tour is officially over. But if you'd like more
suggestions, there's great stuff upstairs.
Jewelry, Theater, Silver, and More
• From the Grand Entrance lobby, pass through the shop, turn right into Room 24, and
climb the staircase to level 3.
Jewelry (Rooms 90-93): This collection is understandably popular. In one long glit-
tering gallery, you can trace the evolution of jewelry from ancient Egyptian, Greek, and
Roman to the 20th century. The Art Nouveau style of Parisian jeweler Rene Lalique is
hard not to love.
