• Walk between the lions, glance at the large reconstructed wooden gates from an Assyrian
palace, and turn right into the long, narrow red gallery (Room 7) lined with stone relief
panels.
Ashurnasirpal II's Palace at Nimrud
This gallery is a mini version of the throne room and royal apartments of King Ashurnas-
irpal II's Northwest Palace at Nimrud (9th century B.C. ). Entering, you'd see the king on
his throne at the far end, surrounded by these pleasant, sand-colored, gypsum relief panels
(which were, however, originally painted and varnished).
