The Tour Begins
The Courtauld Gallery (part of the Courtauld Institute of Art) is just small enough that you
can see it all in a single visit, which makes for a pleasant experience. The collection spans
the history of Western painting, from medieval altarpieces through the Italian Renaissance
to the 20th century. But its highlight is Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, some
of which you'll recognize. Besides the pieces I've featured, you'll likely see many other
well-known Post-Impressionist, Fauvist, and early modern paintings, part of the museum's
