Victoria Revealed: The artifacts here tell the story of Queen Victoria's life, displayed
in the very rooms where she grew up. As Victoria was an avid journaler, you'll see ex-
cerpts from her own accounts all over the place.
The Red Saloon re-creates her 1837 inauguration day and the first meeting with her
Privy Council. You see the once black but now faded dress the 4'11,” 18-year-old mon-
arch wore. A painting on the wall shows the young queen (now dressed in white) facing
down a room full of nobility assigned to advise her. Standing at the far right end of the
table, find Robert “Bobbie” Peel, who's credited with starting the first professional police
force—the “bobbies.” As you can see from the painting, the meeting took place in this
very room.
