merit in-depth research? Designers cannot get the answers to questions like these right by
“design from the I.”
The immersion experiences built into Contextual Design make designers “get real” and
truly own the complexity of the lives of their users. That keeps designers from the almost
inevitable tendency to add features that “might be useful”—a sure signal of over-design.
And it ensures that when quick decisions must be made, the designers' intuitive under-
standing has been tuned through repeated immersion to reflect the users' perspective.
In the rest of this topic we will briefly describe the steps of the latest version of Contex-
tual Design and show how they create a continual immersion in the world of the user for
the purpose of innovative product design.
