nearby hotels as long as they are within walking distance or furnish a shuttle service
to and from the park. After an early dinner, return to the park for the evening's festiv-
ities, which really get cranked up at about 8 p.m.
GETTING THERE
DISNEY PATRONS CAN drive directly into and out of parking facilities without becom-
ing enmeshed in surface street traffic. To avoid traffic problems, we recommend the
following:
1. Stay as close to Disneyland as possible. If you are within walking distance, leave
your car at the hotel and walk to the park using the pedestrian entrance on the east
side of the resort, along Harbor Boulevard between Disney Way and Manchester
Avenue, or through the Grand Californian Hotel into Downtown Disney if walk-
ing from the west side along Disneyland Drive. If your hotel provides efficient
shuttle service (that is, will get you to the parks at least 30 minutes before open-
ing), use the shuttle.
2. If your hotel is more than 5 miles from Disneyland and you intend to drive your
car, leave for the park extra early, say 1 hour or more.
3. If you must use the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5), give yourself lots of extra time.
4. Any time you leave the park just before, at, or just after closing time, you can ex-
pect considerable congestion in the parking lots and in the loading area for hotel
shuttles. The easiest way to return to your hotel (if you do not have a car in the
Disneyland Resort parking lot) is to take the monorail to the Disneyland Hotel or
walk to the Grand Californian Hotel, and then take a cab to your own hotel. While
cabs in Anaheim are a little pricey, they are usually available in ample numbers at
the Disneyland hotels and at the taxi stand in Downtown Disney behind ESPN
Zone. When you consider the alternatives of fighting your way onto a hotel shuttle
or trudging back to your hotel on worn-out feet, spending $5-$10 for a cab often
sounds pretty reasonable.
5. The Orange County Transit District provides very efficient bus service to Disney-
land with several different long-distance lines. Running about every 30 minutes
during the day and evening, service runs 10 a.m.-midnight, depending on the sea-
son and your location. Buses drop off and pick up passengers at the east shuttle
loop off Harbor Boulevard. From there, guests can walk to the park entrance. Bus
fare is about $2 and children age 5 and under ride free. A bus day pass is available
for $5; seven-day passes are $25. For additional information, call
