SETTING AND ATMOSPHERE Intimate restaurant located in a four-store retail strip. The
dining area, with mostly four-tops and two-tops, is casual with earth-toned carpet and
drapes and plexiglass table covers. The room is generally subdued but becomes noisy
when most tables are occupied. Service is extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
HOUSE SPECIALTIES Ethiopian dishes are eaten without utensils by scooping up food with
small pieces of injera, a spongy flatbread that serves as napkin, platter, spoon, and starch
all in one. Though the main ingredients of Ethiopian cuisine are fairly straightforward,
they are enhanced by intense and addictive seasonings that recall Ethiopia's years as the
crossroads of the spice routes. Dishes, primarily stews, are distant forebears of soul food.
Wats (or wots ) and alechas (sometimes alichas ) are the major types of stews, the first al-

and mitmita —are all hot, but berbere is the hottest.
