SETTING AND ATMOSPHERE
This indoor-outdoor space is rich with the yeasty aromas of
breads and cakes, plus whiffs of herbs and spices. Hardwood floors and large glass display
counters distinguish the dining room. A pleasant patio with colorful umbrellas fronting
the café is the perfect perch for a quick cappuccino and pastry while you people-watch.
HOUSE SPECIALTIES
For breakfast, nothing beats a large fruit muffin and your coffee drink
of choice. The panini at lunch and dinner are better than the ones at Napolini.
OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS
Take home one or more loaves of the artisanal breads. Or
try this sandwich on for size: thick sourdough layered with Gruyère cheese, smoked ham,
and marinated onions.
SUMMARY AND COMMENTS
It's all about the bread … and the muffins, pastries, desserts,
and anything else containing baked flour and yeast. Breakfast is the obvious time to enjoy
La Brea, and if you must supplement your carbohydrate fix, add some quiche or vegetable
egg pie. At lunch and dinner, the salads and sandwiches take over. Service has improved
markedly in recent years; servers are more attentive and pleasant. Get there early—it's the
first eatery at the east end of the resort entrance, and a popular starting (and ending) place
for tourists and locals alike. You can get Starbucks-branded coffee here, usually with a
shorter queue than you'll find inside the parks.

SETTING AND ATMOSPHERE
Across the alley from Blue Bayou, Café Orléans overlooks
the Rivers of America. There's a small patio and limited inside seating, but the table-side
service offers a nice break from the serve-yourself and buffet options in the same price
range. After a day of traipsing around the park, it's nice to kick back amid the wrought
iron and scrolled-wood accents.
HOUSE SPECIALTIES
The chef's
pommes frites
have to be among the best sides in the park:
traditional thick-cut french fries tossed with Parmesan cheese, garlic, and parsley and
served with a mildly spicy Cajun rémoulade sauce. If they aren't served piping hot, send
them back. Mickey-shaped beignets are also a treat for dessert.
OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS
Adecent French onion soupwith melted Gruyère cheese; an
artery-clogging Monte Cristo sandwich in two versions, traditional and three-cheese; and
a nice selection of sweet and savory crêpes.
