Compost can be incorporated into the soil at vineyard establishment, or
in existing vineyards it can be spread as an under vine layer up to 5 cm thick
and 50 cm wide. When applied by this method, it can have a short-term effect
in moderating soil temperatures and reducing soil evaporation. However, the
main benefit is that nutrients are supplied (depending on its nutrient analysis)
