Must consider reducing the amount of pollution through cost-effective changes
in production, operation, and raw materials to achieve source reduction.
Farmland Protection Policy
Act of 1981
7 U.S.C. §4201 et. seq. (1981)
Must demonstrate that federal actions take measures to minimize the
unnecessary conversion of farmland to nonagricultural uses.
Wild and Scenic Rivers Act
of 1968
16 U.S.C. §1271-1287 (1968)
Requires the determination if federally designated Wild and Scenic Rivers are
potentially affected by proposed action and if so demonstrate there will be no
action that would substantially change their wild or scenic nature.
American Indian Religious
Freedom Act of 1978
42 U.S.C. 1996
Federal actions cannot restrict access to or adversely affect native American
sacred sites and objects considered sacred. As part of the NEPA process the
agencies must consult with potentially affected native Americans, identify any
sacred resources and take measures to avoid impacting the resources.
Coastal Zone Management
Act of 1972
16 U.S.C. §1451 et. seq. (1972)
The act requires each affected state to develop a Coastal Zone Manage plan and
federal agencies to demonstrate, within the NEPA process compliance with the
plan for each proposed action.
National Historic
Preservation Act
16 U.S.C. §4703 et. seq. (1966)
The act requires identiication of historical properties and other features and
federal agencies to demonstrate, within the NEPA process, protection of the
properties for each proposed action.
