EEE 1284 Parallel Port Standard
The IEEE 1284 standard, called “Standard Signaling Method for a Bidirectional Parallel
Peripheral Interface for Personal Computers,” was approved for final release in March
1994.Thisstandarddefinesthephysicalcharacteristicsoftheparallelport,includingdata-
transfermodesandphysicalandelectrical specifications. IEEE1284definestheelectrical
signaling behavior for a multimodal parallel port that can support 4-bit modes of opera-
tion. Not all modes are required by the 1284 specification, and the standard makes some
provision for additional modes.
