Printing to a desktop inkjet printer
Many consumer-level inkjet printers do a good job printing pho-
tographs and other image files. The precise settings available vary
from printer to printer, but when you're printing images from
Photoshop to a desktop inkjet printer, you'll get the best results if
you do the following:
Make sure the appropriate printer driver is installed, and that
you've selected it.
Use the appropriate paper for your intended use. Special photo-
graphic and coated papers are a good choice when you're printing
photos for framing.
Select the correct paper source in the printer settings. The printer
lays ink differently on different types of paper. If you're using
photographic paper, make sure you've selected it in the printer set-
tings.
Select the image quality in the printer settings. For framed prints,
you probably want to print the highest quality. If you're printing a
proof to get a sense of the color, you may want to select a lower
quality for speedier printing and to use less ink.
Printing a CMYK image from Photoshop
If you're printing an image directly from Photoshop, use the following guidelines
for best results:
Print a color composite , often called a color comp, to proof your image. A
color composite is a single print that combines the red, green, and blue
channels of an RGB image (or the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black chan-
nels of a CMYK image). This indicates what the final printed image will
look like.
Set the parameters for the halftone screen.
Print separations to make sure the image separates correctly.
Print to film or plate.
