FIGURE 14.2 A dissected Pacific 'Black Duck'. This image was included in J. R.
Kinghorn's correspondence at the Australian Museum, in which he made some of the
practical arrangements for obtaining dead ducks from the Murrumbidgee Irrigation
Area, in order to discover whether or not they had eaten rice crops. This image was
likely used to demonstrate duck anatomy and may not be one of the ducks sent from
the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area to Kinghorn, though it is one of the same species.
