a “letter to ile” may be required providing justiication for the authorization of the project under
the nationwide permit.
“Letters of permission” is also an abbreviated permit process, where the Corps notiies other
agencies but does not have to publish a public notice. These abbreviated permits are restricted to
projects that have “minor” impacts with little opposition.
For everything else involving dredge or ill operations in jurisdictional waters, individual permits
are required. The permits are issued by the Corps ofice, usually after a preapplication consultation,
