allow, for example, water level management. There are often more constraints as well, since large
reservoirs may be operated for multiple purposes (water supply, hydropower, lood control, etc.) that
may impose operations (such as spring drawdown) not optimal to isheries management. Another
management strategy in many reservoirs, since they are not “natural” systems, is to introduce and
maintain yields of nonnative ish species to provide enhanced recreational or commercial opportu-
nities. A speciic concern for reservoirs is their impact on and management of diadromous isheries,
where, for example, dams provide barriers to migration.
