8.4.1.2 Crop Nutrient Management (Code 590)
This practice (Figure 8.11) manages the amount, source, placement, form, and timing of the applica-
tion of plant nutrients and soil amendments. The practice helps to ensure that nutrients are available
to meet crop needs while reducing nutrient movements off ields. The purpose of this practice is to
budget and supply nutrients for plant production; properly utilize manure or organic by-products
as a plant nutrient source; minimize agricultural nonpoint source pollution of surface water and
