A 1000-MWel pulverized coal steam plant operating at 35% thermal efficiency rejects one-third of
the coal heating value (30 MJ/kg) to the once-through seawater cooling system. At the discharge
point the seawater can only be 5 C warmer than at the intake point. How much seawater needs to
be pumped through the cooling system (m 3 /s)?
