Pseudomonas aeruginosa
is resistant to most dis-
infectants and can survive in hostile environments producing several sepses in patients
submitted to hemodialysis. Considering the relevance of this bacterium, the study was
conducted using a reference strain and one isolated from a ibrocystic patient (5FQ). For
both strains, the bactericidal effect was observed between 2 and 3 h (Table 30.12).
Leptospira interrogans
is the causal agent of leptospirosis. The illness can evolve toward
an epidemic transmitted by direct exposure to infected animal feces or any contact with
wet soils and infected waters. Leptospirosis affects both humans and animals. This deadly
disease, produced by spirochete bacteria of the
Leptospira
genus, affects the liver, kidneys,
and/or nervous system [25].
Leptospira
does not produce enteric sickness but it is transmit-
ted by mucosal or damaged skin contact with water.
Considering the slow growth of the bacteria, the determination of viability was con-
ducted using a microscope in dark ield mode and the results were presented in qualitative
form (Table 30.13). The use of ZZ in stirred conditions showed a reduction of the number
