50 mL of LB media and 10% ZZ. Additionally, a control Erlenmeyer was inoculated
that contained neither of these products. After introducing ZZ, the test proceeded in
two ways: stirring and not stirring or static. The bacterial strains used in the test were
selected considering their virulence and survival span in drinking water, as presented
in Table 30.2.
The test conducted to evaluate the effect of ZZ on
Giardia lamblia
cysts was performed
according to the following procedure:
• Extraction of
G. lamblia
cysts from infected human feces
• Cyst count using Neubauer chamber
• Production of the infective dose (20,000 cysts/mL)
• Inoculation of the Erlenmeyers containing drinking water control sample and
those with ZZ 10%
• Cyst count after 30 min, 1 h, and 3 h
