Termites have access to a unique food source—wood—through their coop-
eration with microbes. Australia's aboriginal people exploit this phenomenon when making their
traditional musical instrument, the didgeridoo. A didgeridoo is made from a eucalyptus branch
eaten hollow by termites
amphibians and the males answer immediately. Female frogs and toads favour
males with a deep croak as this is a sign of physical health. On one occasion the
females came so close I thought they would start crawling up my leg.
