formation centres” - these are manned by pushy sales agents trying to sell private tours or
timeshare units.
Touts Given its constant supply of freshly arrived tourists, Nadi is a magnet for touts trying
to flog woodcarvings and masks. While they can be aggressive, a firm “No thanks” should
stop you being followed around all day.
Services You'll find ATMs dotted along Main Street in Nadi, and the Queens Rd. There's a
useful Westpac Bank with ATM machine at Port Denarau.

GETTING AROUND
A constant stream of cars, minivans and buses impatiently dart along the main Queens Rd
between Nadi Airport and Downtown, and picking up public transport here is a breeze.
Travelling off the main road, though, usually involves taking a taxi , with only an infrequent
bus service to the busy tourist areas of Wailoaloa and Denarau, and these only from Down-
town. The suburban layout of Nadi, with gaping farmland between attractions, makes explor-
ing by foot impractical. You can bypass the whole of suburban Nadi by taking the Nadi Back
Road from the roundabout south of Nadi Airport to the southern end of Downtown, a journey
that takes less than 10min.
BY BUS
Along Queens Rd Local buses operate between 6am and 6pm travelling every 15min or so
along the Queens Rd between Downtown Nadi and Nadi Airport, costing F$1.10 a ride, with
about half of these travelling on to Lautoka and the other half diverting off the Queens Rd to
rural settlements.
To Wailoaloa There are six buses daily from Downtown to Wailoaloa between 7.10am and
5pm, costing 80 cents.
To Denarau Island There are nine buses daily from Downtown Nadi between 8am and 5pm,
costing F$1.10. Once on the island, the hotels, Golf and Racket Club and Port Denarau are
all connected by the complimentary Bula Bus (6am-11pm, departs every 15min).
BY MINIVAN
Minivans, many of them illegally operated, run constantly along the Queens Rd picking up
passengers by the roadside for 80 cents a trip - the legal operators usually have a business
name and telephone number stencilled on their bodywork.
BY TAXI
Taxis are based at most hotels, or can be called by reception staff. Otherwise, you can hail
a cab on the street with an outstretched arm and a flap of a hand. Nadi International Airport
taxis are painted yellow and wait immediately outside both the international and domestic ar-
rivals concourses at all hours.
