Waimakare Camping Ground 993 0319; map . A ten-minute walk south of the Korean
Wharf, this secluded campsite is set in light forest within the grounds of a Fijian family home.
There's a plain wooden dormitory with a kitchen: beds consist of a mat and mattress laid on
the floor. The family will cook for you if required, and are generous with the abundant fruit
from the gar den - pawpaws, bananas, pineapples and avocados. Camping (with own tent)

map . The pleasant oceanfront setting of this resort is pleasant enough once you're inside the
landscaped gardens, and rooms (some with ocean views) are modern and attr active. A large
sea almond tree at the north end of the resort hosts hundreds of fruit bats. $366
WAIRIKI

Zealanders, this is a welcome addition to the Taveuni resort scene, with a comfortable but
relaxed vibe. There are two bures, both with great outdoor showers, plus an infinity pool,
excellen t resta urant and landscaped gardens edging the beach. Good diving trips can be ar-
ranged. F$250
Southern Taveuni
Southern Taveuni is dominated by rows of coconut palms growing on the rich volcanic soil.
Inland, a series of volcanic cones pop out from the gentle slopes rising to the island's highest
point, the inaccessible Mount Uluiqalau (1241m). Right at the southern end of Taveuni is the
rocky South Cape and, just up the east coast, the Matamaiqi Blowhole .
