ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE: LABASA
BY PLANE
Airport With the only tarmac runway outside Viti Levu, miniscule Labasa Airport is located
10km southwest of town. Taxis into the centre of Labasa cost F$12; minivans (every 30min;
5.45am-5pm) pass along the main road near the terminal and cost F$1 to Labasa.
Destinations Nadi (daily; 1hr 5min); Nausori, Suva (2 daily; 45min).
BY BOAT
Labasa's port at Malau is 8km east of town and generally open only for container ships. Ferry
passengers arriving at Nabouwalu are met by a connecting bus to Labasa.
BY BUS
All public buses arrive at and depart from the Labasa bus stand, adjacent to the Municipal
Market.
To Savusavu From Labasa there are regular buses to Savusavu (6 daily; F$8; 2hr 30min)
heading west along the Seaqaqa Highway. You can also reach Savusavu the long way round
via Natewa Bay. This route follows the sealed Wainikoro-Dama Road east of Labasa and
then switches to dirt roads through the mountains to Wainigadru village. From Wainigadru
another dirt road heads south along the coast to Savusavu. A daily service run by Waiqele
Buses covers the route, leaving Labasa at 9am and arriving in Savusavu at around 4.30pm
(7hr 30min).
To Nabouwalu Heading from Labasa to the Patterson Brothers ferry terminal at Nabouwalu
takes around 5hr by bus (departures 6.30am, 10.30am, 1pm & 2pm; F$12).
Destinations Basoga (8 daily; 20min); Coqeloa (10 daily; 45min); Dreketilialia (6 daily;
45min); Lekutulevu (3 daily; 1hr 20min); Nabouwalu (4 daily; 5hr); Savusavu (7 daily; 2hr
30min-7h 30min).
