In-Depth Information
The Municipal Market and around
The town centre is flanked on its east side by the flood-prone Labasa River, which flows
5km north to the coast through mangrove forest. Beside the Labasa bridge is the delightful
Municipal Market (Mon-Fri 7.30am-4.45pm, Sat 7am-1pm), a good place to mingle with
the locals. In the small park overlooking the river are six small open-sided huts where locals
gather to drink yaqona - you can join in by offering a F$1 donation towards the grog bowl.
Nasekula Road
Heading east from the bridge is Labasa's main street, Nasekula Road , lined by colourful
Fiji-Indian shops. The busiest spot along the street is Dragon Entertainment, a pool hall with
blaring reggae music where Fijians and Fiji-Indians congregate. South of the bus stand, a
pleasant riverside walk leads from Reddy Place to Guru Nanak School beside Nacula vil-
lage. From the village you can head back to Nasekula Road via Vunimoli Road.
