CITY CENTRE
Island Grille Downtown Boulevard Food Court; map . One of five eating options in this busy
food court and one of the few places in Suva you can buy Fijian food, albeit ready made. Try
the delicious palusami and dalo for F$7 or rich octopus in coconut cream for F$9; the fatty
meat dishes are best avoided. Mon-Sat 8am-5pm.
Palm Court Café QBE Courtyard, off Victoria Parade 330 4662, palmcourtfiji.com ;
map . Attractive bistro in a leafy courtyard setting, popular with the business crowd. The
cooked breakfast costs F$15.30, steak or home-made fish burgers are F$8.20 or you can
simply sit and relax over a coffee, herbal tea or thick shake. Mon-Fri 7am-4.30pm, Sat
7am-2pm.
Shanghai Seafood Corner of Thomson and Pier streets 331 4865; map . Popular Chinese
restaurant with an extensive numbered menu and food that's neither too spicy nor too salty.
Make sure you bag a table on the veranda with views overlooking the busy Triangle. Mains
such as steamed fish cost F$14-16. Daily 11.30am-2.30pm & 5.30-10.30pm.
Tiko's Floating Restaurant Stinson Parade 331 3626; map . Not surprisingly, the focus
of this floating restaurant is on freshly caught seafood, including mud crabs, king prawns,
octopus and lobster, with a few steak and vegetarian dishes thrown in (from F$20). Service
is impeccable. There's a wide selection of wines and the serenading guitarists along with
the creaking noises of the ship all add to the South Seas atmosphere. Mon-Fri noon-2pm &
5.30-10pm, Sat 5.30-10pm.
NORTH SUVA
Govinda's 97 Mark St 330 9587; map . Simple vegetarian café with a choice of twelve
dishes with roti and ice creams. The most popular item is the great value “Combination
Thali”, which includes four curries, three vegetable dishes, chapati, samosa, three Indian
sweets and juice for F$15. Mon-Sat 9am-5.45pm.
SOUTH SUVA
Ashiyana Old Town Hall, Victoria Parade 331 3000; map . Tiny, unpretentious restaurant
that's a favourite with the Indian community, serving eye-wateringly hot curries. Mains such
as murgh tikka cost from F$12. Tues-Sat 11.30am-2.30pm & 6-10pm, Sun 6-10pm.
Bad Dog Victoria Parade 330 2884; map . If you've been in the Fijian sticks for a while,
make a beeline for Bad Dog , with its designer decor, icy air-conditioning and eclectic cuisine:
pizzas, steak, sushi and seafood (from F$12). The French-style puddings are a bit of a rarity,
and you can move on to the bar for after-dinner drinks. Mon-Wed 11am-11pm, Thurs-Sat
11am-1am, Sun 5-11pm.
