Tourist information There is no tourist information centre in the city, but major hotels oper-
ate tour and information desks.
Maps Free maps are available from hotel tour/info desks but for more detail try the Henna
Fiji map (F$10.50), available from the post office on Scott St or Bookmasters at 173 Victoria
Parade.

ACTIVITIES AND SPORTS
Golf Fiji Golf Club, 15 Rifle Range Rd, North Samabula ( 338 1184) has a flat eighteen-
hole course; non-members can play any day except Sat (daily 7am-5pm; F$30, trolley, clubs
and shoes extra).
Massage If you're after a pampering, try Sundara Spa, 59 Gordon St, next to Southern Cross
Hotel (daily 10am-10pm; 331 0288).
Swimming and sports centres Suva's most conveniently located swimming pool is the at-
tractive 1925-built Suva Olympic Pool, off Victoria Parade (April-Sept Mon-Fri 10am-6pm,
Sat & Sun 8am-6pm; Oct-March Mon-Fri 9am-8pm, Sat & Sun 7am-8pm; 330 5599),
where you can swim all day for F$3. You can also swim at Laucala Sports City, Laucala Bay (
331 2177), where there's an Olympic-sized indoor swimming pool at the National Aquatic
Centre (daily 6am-7pm; F$5); nearby, the indoor Vodaphone Arena offers badminton, judo
and volleyball.
WATERSPORTS AROUND SUVA
The ocean around Suva is too polluted for swimming. The closest snorkelling reef is at
Nukulau Island and a mediocre surfing break lies off Suva Point. For water activities it's
best to head west to Pacific Harbour , thirty minutes along the Queens Road, or to the off-
shore islands of Toberua or Caqalai , both popular weekend destinations for city dwellers.
You may find overnight skippered yacht charters and crew work advertised at The Royal
Suva Yacht Club at Walu Bay.

ACCOMMODATION
As you'd expect, the capital has a decent variety of accommodation , although it's the one
place in Fiji you won't find palm-fringed resorts, thanks to the lack of nearby beaches. The
only time it's difficult to find a room is at Christmas or during the Hibiscus Festival (usually
the school holidays in Aug). Suva South and Central are the best options for most visit-
ors, being close to the top restaurants and bars as well as the Fiji Museum. Suva North is
