ACCOMMODATION
Natalei Eco Lodge Nataleira 881 1168; map . Eight thatch bures alongside the beach, four
of which are used as dorms, as well as two cottages with en-suite cold-water showers and
flush toilets. Located right on the edge of the village, the lodge has little privacy but cultur-
al interaction is without doubt the focus here. Activities include weaving lessons, yaqona -
drinking, hiking and waterfall treks and, with larger groups, meke performances. A restaurant
overlooks the beach - local-style me als a re serv ed at s et times and cold drinks are sometimes
available, but never alcohol. Dorms F$75 ; bures F$150
Takalana Bay Retreat 1km north of Nataleira 991 6338, takalana.blogspot.co.uk ;
map . There are just two bures here, connected by a communal sitting area where meals
are served. Both bures are homely and well decorated with en-suite hot-water bathrooms
and cooking stoves. The retreat is surrounded by 84 acres of private land descending to the
coast w ith un obscured views towards Naigani and Ovalau islands. Rate (per person) includes

Korovou
The grubby, one-street town of KOROVOU forms the intersection of the Tailevu Coast Road
and Kings Road. The southern portion of the Kings Road heads 30km south to Nausori and
on to Suva. The town is essentially a convenient stop for buses , with a small market and a
couple of stores.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE: KOROVOU
By bus Apart from the Sunbeam express bus, several local buses head inland to Vunidawa
and on to Suva.
Destinations Ba (7 daily; 4hr); Lautoka (8 daily; 4hr 45min); Suva (14 daily; 1hr 10min);
Rakiraki (9 daily; 2hr 30min); Tavua (9 daily; 3hr 25min).
By minivan Public minivans beside the road run north to Natovi Landing for F$2, and you
should be able to persuade the driver to continue 40min on to Natalei Eco Lodge or Takalana
Bay Retreat for another F$25.
