The northern Yasawas
The 5km choppy Naivalavala Passage separates Naviti from Yaqeta, the most southerly of a
cluster of a dozen islands that make up the
NORTHERN YASAWAS
. The islands' remote
position gives them an exotic, exclusive atmosphere, although they cater to all budgets from
backpackers to business class. Typically low-lying in nature - the highest point is just under
300m - the main attractions are the beaches and bays, with colourful snorkelling and scuba
diving along an intricate network of coral reefs never far away. Between May and October,
yachts
congregate around the sheltered
Blue Lagoon Bay
between Tavewa and Nanuya. The
northernmost island of the group, the long thin
Yasawa Island
, has undulating hills and cliffs,
with sweeping fine white sandy beaches used as picnic stopovers by luxury overnight cruises.
