ISLAND TOURS
Sightseeing trips Most resorts offer organized island sightseeing trips or village visits for
around F$30 per person.
Kuata, Wayasewa and Waya
The three volcanic islands of Kuata , Wayasewa and Waya are the most striking of the Yas-
awa Islands and on a clear day can be seen from Nadi jutting out on the distant horizon. The
50km journey by boat from Port Denarau takes just under two hours.
Kuata
Kuata , the most southerly island of the Yasawas, has been designated a nature sanctuary by
its owners on adjacent Wayasewa. Pleasant walking trails meander around the oddly shaped
hills and rocky outcrops but, unless you're very lucky, you're unlikely to see any of the cres-
ted iguanas that hide in the forest trees. A deep ocean wall immediately off the island's west
coast has fantastic scuba diving , and there's an unusual figure-of-eight swim through pin-
nacles and caves off the east coast. There are dive operators at both Kuata Natural Resort
and neighbouring Waya Lailai Ecohaven Resort on Wayasewa , or you can dive with Captain
Cook Cruises . Snorkelling is also very good here and there's a popular reef, reached by boat,
where you're likely to see quite a few reef sharks.
