lands . With your own transport, a stunning drive starts from halfway along the Nadi Back
Road at the turn-off known as Mulomulo Road. Head inland along this road for 14km, and
after a steep hairpin bend, keep an eye out for a walking track on the left-hand side (you can
park 50m beyond at a roadside clearing on the right); the track leads up past a triangular sur-
vey marker to a steep cliff with superb views over the Sabeto River Valley and out over Nadi
to the offshore islands.
The road continues climbing through pine forests to Nausori village. Five kilometres beyond
is a fork in the road - the left track marked Natewa Road heads over to Vaturu Dam (see Sa-
beto River Valley ) , but it's a rough 4WD trail.
North to Lautoka
The most scenic region around Nadi lies along a rural stretch of the Queens Road running
north towards Lautoka, dotted with palm trees, timber churches, grazing horses and tranquil
villages and backed by forested hills. Inland is the Sabeto River Valley , the botanical
Garden of the Sleeping Giant and the Sleeping Giant Zipline adventure park; further on
the road passes through the historic villages of Lomolomo and Viseisei before reaching the
tranquil coastal setting of Vuda Point , halfway between Nadi Airport and Lautoka.
Sabeto River Valley
The lush Sabeto River Valley , 4km north of the airport, is accessed along a 5km sealed road,
which thereafter turns to dirt for another 30km. The valley is flanked on its north side by the
distinct outline of the Sleeping Giant rock formation with its pointy nose facing the sky. The
road turns to dirt just beyond Masimasi Hindu Temple, and continues on winding its way up
the steep Sabeto Hills to the utterly remote Vaturu Dam .
