Slate
Slate weathers quickly in a moist climate, developing a rugged topography intensely
patterned with many sharp ridges and steep hillsides. Drainage is fine rectangular den-
dritic.

Deformation by Folding
6.3.1
General
Significance
Mass Deformation
Deformation from compressive forces in the crust can result in the gentle warping of hor-
izontal strata, or in the intense and irregular folding of beds (see also discussion of cata-
clastic metamorphism in Section 5.2.5). It can proceed to overturn beds completely or it
can result in faulting and overthrusting ( Section 6.5) .
