Laboratory tests are performed on relatively intact specimens, seldom providing a repre-
sentative model except for high-quality rock approaching an elastic material. Various
investigators have studied relationships between rock quality and moduli as determined
by various methods and correlative procedures in the attempt to provide bases for estab-
lishing design moduli.
