In-Depth Information
We bought apples and crackers and cheese and drinks at the Eagle Trading Company
and picnicked on the steps of the Customs House, the Yukon rolling past literally at our
feet. A small boat went by. It didn't look like it was in much of a hurry. Neither were we.
Indeed, this trip is not for those of you who are in a hurry. It's five hundred miles one
way from Anchorage to Eagle. From Chicken to Eagle it's all gravel, and after the turnoff
to Eagle it's one lane. The road itself is all curves and corners and you'll spend most of
the journey praying you don't meet oncoming traffic.
But the reward at the end of the road is worth it.
