An alternative (and more common) visualization of the rainflow counting method is il-
lustrated in Figure 12-7. Here the time axis is oriented vertically, and water is imagined to
be flowing down off a series of “pagoda” roofs. The drip lines from the pagoda roof sections
define the minimum and maximum loads in each cycle. The cycle-counting results are the
same as those listed in Table 12-2.
