and slightly polar compounds. The APCI method is analogous to CI (commonly
used in GC-MS) where primary ions are produced by corona discharge on a
solvent spray. In APCI (Fig. 12.6), the LC eluent is sprayed through a heated
(typically 250-400 C) vaporizer at atmospheric pressure. The heat vaporizes the
