28. You are designing a sampling program and you are in charge of developing the field
sampling QA/QC plan. Your crew will be on site at an abandoned landfill for two days to
collect the following samples: (a) Fourteen water samples from groundwater monitoring
wells. The samples will be collected by pumping each well with a portable peristaltic
pump and 25-50 feet of Teflon tubing into clean sampling containers. (b) Twenty-nine
soil samples that will be taken using a hand auger from depths of 1-3 m. The hand auger
is essentially a rotating shovel, and the samples will be removed from the auger by
scraping them into clean sampling containers.
How many and what type of QA/QC samples are necessary? Fill in the following
table by: (1) labeling the type of QA/QC samples across the top; and (2) listing the
correct number of QA/QC samples necessary for each matrix type.
