Regions at a Glance
Central Australia is vast and utterly diverse: it's hard to carve it into bite-sized regions for
travel consumption. But here goes!
Kick things off in Adelaide: festival-addicted and riddled with fab places to eat and
drink. Fanning out from here you'll find impressive wine regions, brilliant beaches and
wildlife-spotting opportunities. In the South Australian outback are desolate desert tracks,
quirky towns and astonishing national parks.
In the tropical Top End, Darwin is a hip hub with great markets, breezy restaurants and
kooky festivals. Don't miss adventures, wildlife encounters and Aboriginal cultural exper-
iences on the Tiwi Islands, in Arnhem Land and in Kakadu and Nitmiluk national parks.
Further south in the desert is arty/festive Alice Springs, launch pad for visits to iconic
Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon.
Adelaide
Mad March
Every March Adelaide erupts with festivals: visual arts, music, theatre, busking and the
growl of V8 engines. The question is, why do it all at once?
