January
January yawns into action as central Australia recovers from its Christmas
hangover... But then everyone realises: 'Hey, summer holidays!' South Aus-
tralia and the central deserts are hot and dry; the Top End is hot and wet.
SA locals head to the Adelaide Oval to watch cricket.
2 Tour Down Under
( www.tourdownunder.com.au ) SA's six-stage version of the Tour de France. People line
the streets to watch the lycra-clad lads whizz past, with picnic rugs, champagne and Euro
vibes.
February
February is central Australia's warmest month: hot and sticky in the Wet
season up north, while much of SA swelters in dry desert heat. Locals go
back to work or to the beach.
6 Crush
( www.crushfestival.com.au ) Fine wine and music at this Adelaide Hills festival, billing it-
self as the 'stylish alternative'. Our advice: pick your winery and stay put - racing the
crowds from winery to winery ain't stylish.
