IF YOU LIKE... EAT STREETS
Big cities and eating-out: it's a symbiotic relationship, with the best restaurants of-
ten keeping close company. In Adelaide head for Rundle St or Gouger St; in Darwin
it's Mitchell St.
Quirky Small Towns
'Woah...how do people live out here?!' Not an uncommon thought in remote central Aus-
tralia. But isolation breeds small towns with community spirit, quirkiness, charm and (usu-
ally) a good pub.
William Creek On SA's Oodnadatta Track is William Creek. There's not much here: an
airstrip, a petrol pump and an amazing old pub. ( Click here )
Wycliffe Well On the Stuart Hwy 380km north of Alice in the NT, Wycliffe Well is a UFO-
spotting hotspot. ( Click here )
Coober Pedy With its subterranean, opal-obsessed locals, Coober Pedy in SA is truly
one of a kind. ( Click here )
Melrose Two pubs, a national park, a derelict brewery and inexplicable gravitas: is Mel-
rose SA's perfect small town? ( Click here )
Daly Waters The pub here claims to be the NT's oldest (1893). 120 years later it's still a
worthy pit stop. ( Click here )
Aileron Yes, it's a thing on a wing, but this wee NT blip associates more readily with
'Naked Charlie Quartpot'. ( Click here )
