Alice Springs is well connected, with Qantas ( 08-8950 5211, 13 13 13;
www.qantas.com.au ) operating daily flights to/from capital cities. Other airlines come and
go but were not flying to Alice Springs at the time of research. Airline representatives are
based at Alice Springs airport. One-way fares from Alice include Yulara (from $168),
Adelaide (from $210), Darwin (from $300), Melbourne (from $280), Sydney (from
$280), Brisbane (from $310) and Perth (from $350). Check websites for latest timetables
and fare offers.
BUS
Greyhound Australia ( 1300 473 946; www.greyhound.com.au ; 113 Todd St, shop 3; office
8.30-11.30am & 1.30-4pm Mon-Fri) has regular services from Alice Springs (check website
for timetables and discounted fares). Buses arrive at, and depart from, the Greyhound of-
fice on Todd St.

Emu Run ( Click here ) runs the cheapest daily connections between Alice Springs and
Yulara (adult/child $215/108) and between Kings Canyon and Alice Springs ($189/95).
Gray Line ( 1300 858 687; www.grayline.com ; Capricornia Centre 9 Gregory Tce) also runs
between Alice Springs and Yulara (adult/child $226/113), and offers a one-way option
($156/113).
Backpacker buses roam to and from Alice providing a party atmosphere and a chance
to see some of the sights on the way. Groovy Grape Getaways Australia ( 1800 661
177; www.groovygrape.com.au ) plies the route from Alice to Adelaide on a seven-day, back-
packer camping jaunt for $945.
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
Alice Springs is a long way from everywhere. It's 1180km to Mt Isa in Queensland,
1490km to Darwin and 441km (4½ hours) to Yulara (for Uluru). Although the roads to
the north and south are sealed and in good condition, these are outback roads, and it's
wise to have your vehicle well prepared, particularly as you won't get a mobile phone
