In-Depth Information
Syngas
A mixture of CO and H 2 formed, for example, by partially oxidizing coal
in a coal gasifi er.
Temperature swing adsorption
Adsorption or absorption process where one uses a temperature swing:
adsorption at low temperature and desorption at high temperature to
achieve a separation.
See also pressure swing adsorption.
Van't Hoff equation
Thermodynamic relation describing the temperature dependence of the
Henry coeffi cient, H :

Weathering reactions
Reaction of the weak acid formed by CO 2 and water with rocks:

CaAl 2 Si 2 O 8

2H 2 O CaCO 3

Al 2 Si 2 O 5 (OH) 4
Wetting
Wetting is the ability of a fl uid to wet a substrate. If a fl uid wets a sub-
strate it will spread as a thin fi lm, while a non-wetting fl uid will form a
droplet. Fluids can also partially wet a substrate, and this wetting behav-
ior is quantifi ed by the contact angle.
Working capacity
The amount of material that is removed in one cycle for an adsorption or
absorption process, usually the difference between the amount adsorbed
