In-Depth Information
Minimum work
Thermodynamic concept that describes the minimum amount of work
that needs to be performed to operate a process without violating the
fi rst and second laws of thermodynamics.
MOF
See Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs).
Monoethanol amine
Monoethanol amine (MEA), or C 2 H 7 NO, is the reference fl uid for CO 2
scrubbing.
Mtoe
A Mtoe stands for 10 6 tonnes of equivalent oil, i.e., the produced energy
is equivalent to the energy released by burning 10 6 tonnes of oil (in SI
units 1,000 Mtoe = 42 EJ; E = exa = 10 18 ).
Navier-Stokes equations
The fundamental equations that describe the fl ow of a fl uid based on
conservation of mass and momentum.
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
A spectroscopic technique that uses the unique magnetic properties of
some atoms.
Oxy-combustion
Process in which coals are burned with nearly pure oxygen. The resulting
fl ue gas contains only water and CO 2 which can be easily separated by
condensation.
