Glossary
Absorber
The part of an adsorption process equipment in which the gas mixture
that needs to be separated is brought into contact with the solvent.

Absorption
Removing CO 2 (or any other component) from a mixture using the differ-
ences in the solubilities of the components of the mixture in a solvent. In
the topic, absorption always refers to the use of liquid solvents to sepa-
rate components from a gas mixture.

Adsorption
Removing CO 2 (or any other component) from a mixture using the differ-
ences in adsorption of the different components in a solid. In the topic,
absorption always refers to a solid.
Albedo effect
Refl ection of the sunlight by the surface of the earth.
Aquifer
A formation of permeable rocks saturated with water, with a degree of
permeability that allows water withdrawal through wells.
