A Btu is a British thermal unit — a measurement of thermal energy. A Btu is roughly
1,055 J. Fuels are often measured in Btu to show how much potential they have to heat
water into steam or to provide energy in other ways, for example to engines. Figure from

Chakravarty et al . [1.8] argue that carbon emissions are a global problem
where each person has an individual responsibility to mitigate CO 2 emis-
sions. These authors have therefore proposed a plan for global emissions
reduction that is based upon individuals, as opposed to nations. Figure 1.2.7
