Peace Bridge Stroll
A stroll across the architecturally fetching Peace Bridge rewards you with great views as
you look back west across the river toward the city center. The €14 million pedestrian
Peace Bridge opened in 2011, linking neighborhoods long divided by the river. On the far
side, the former Ebrington Barracks British Army base (1841-2003) sits on prime real es-
tate and surrounds a huge square that was once the military parade ground. This area will
eventually be developed with a hotel, restaurant, and museum complex. The slope down
to the river has been dubbed “Mute Meadows,” where 40 pillars will be lit up at night with
shifting colors. The site has already become an outdoor concert venue and gathering place
for the whole community.
