In-Depth Information
With elegant old homes facing its spruced-up harbor and not even a hint of big-city Bel-
fast, Bangor has appeal. The harbor is a 10-minute walk from the train station.
Catch the train to Bangor from either Belfast's Central or Great Victoria Street stations;
both are on the same line (2/hour, 30 minutes, go to the end of the line—don't get off at
Bangor West). Before 9:30, it costs £8.10 round-trip (but after 9:30, it's only £5.40 round-
trip). Consider stopping en route at Cultra (Ulster Folk Park and Transport Museum; see
here
). The journey gives you a good, close-up look at the giant Belfast harbor cranes.
If day-tripping into Belfast from Bangor, get off at Central Station (free shuttle bus to
the town center, 4/hour, none on Sun; some trains may also stop at the more convenient
Great Victoria Street Station), or stay on until Botanic Station for the Ulster Museum, the
Golden Mile, and Sandy Row.
