Orientation to Galway
The center of Galway is Eyre Square. Within two blocks of the square, you'll find the TI,
Aran boat offices, a tour pickup point, accommodations (from the best cheap hostel beds
to fancy hotels), and the train station. The train and public bus station butt up against the
Hotel Meyrick, a huge gray railroad hotel that overlooks and dominates Eyre Square. The
lively old town lies between Eyre Square and the river. From Eyre Square, Williams Gate
leads a pedestrian parade right through the old town (changing street names several times)
to Wolfe Tone Bridge. Nearly everything you'll see and do is within a few minutes' walk
of this spine.
