Ballyvaughan
Really just a crossroads, Ballyvaughan is the closest town to the Burren. Shane Connolly
is based here and leads in-depth, three-hour guided walking tours through the Burren,
explaining the region's diverse flora, its geology and history, and the role humans have
played in shaping this landscape. Wear comfortable shoes for the wet, rocky fields, and
prepare to meet a proud farmer who really knows his stuff (€15, daily at 10:00 and
15:00, call to book and confirm meeting place in Ballyvaughan, tel. 065/707-7168, ht-

Kinvarra
This tiny town, between Ballyvaughan and Galway (30 minutes from each), is waiting for
something to happen in its minuscule harbor. It faces Dunguaire Castle, a four-story tower
house from 1520 that stands a few yards out in the bay.
