Botany of the Burren in Brief
The Burren is a story of water, rock, geological force, and time. It supports the
greatest diversity of plants in Ireland. Like nowhere else, Mediterranean and Arctic
wildflowers bloom side by side in the Burren. It's an orgy of cross-pollination that
attracts more insects than Doolin does music lovers—even beetles help out. Lime-
stone,created fromlayers ofcoral, seashells, andmud,isthebedrockoftheBurren.
(The same formation resurfaces 10 miles or so out to sea to form the Aran Islands.)
