Meals on Slea Head Loop
The Stonehouse is an appealing lunch or dinner option about seven miles (12 km) west
of Dingle on the Slea Head Loop road. Serving local specialties, from scones to fresh sea-
food and steak dishes, David and Michelle Foran nurture a cozy atmosphere. Their front
porch outdoor tables are popular seaview perches on warm summer evenings. You gotta
try the fresh Dingle Bay crab salad (€11-15 meals, daily 11:00-21:30, reservations smart,
tel. 066/915-9970, www.stonehouseventry.com ) .
All Roads Lead to An Daingean
The western half of the Dingle Peninsula is part of the Gaeltacht, where locals
speak the Irish (Gaelic) language. In an effort to ward off English-language en-
croachment, all place names on road signs were controversially changed to Irish-
only in 2005 (see “Dingle or An Daingean?” sidebar on here ) . As you travel along
Slea HeadDrive(knownasCeann Sléibhe inIrish),youcanrefertothischeat sheet
of the most useful destination names. Remember that a complete translation of all
Irish place names is included in the Gazetteer section at the back of the Complete
Road Atlas of Ireland by Ordnance Survey.
